Last week I stumbled upon some beautiful songs on Bandcamp by a certain LS (or ElleEsse) from Vicenza, Italy. I was instantly captivated by the way in which he achieved a perfect mix between old and new music. You can hear how the songs are built on genres from past decades, but they have been given a contemporary twist.
First example is this amazing “Take The B Train”, described as a meditative travel soundtrack. Starting off with simple jazzy percussion, it develops into an airy melody, later joined by electronic percussion. It’s a never settling melody that’s just floating somewhere in the air, never really complete.
This second song, “Tom Devil (Work Song)”, was made for the PaloBeat project. It’s a project in which sounds were recorded at a building site at the Dal Molin airport at Vicenza and then made available for musicians, artists and producers to do with it what they liked. LS mixed the sounds of the construction site appropriatly with an old working song. The mixture between the old rhythmic song, the electronic beat and the snippets of recorded sound is again a great combination.
Those are the only two songs I will discuss here, but I encourage you to go take a look at the bandcamp page, there are still three other songs that are worth a listen.
